About

Wayne Kreml is a freelance trombonist and educator with a focus on community impact through project management. His work has included both solo and chamber music performances for the general public alongside acting as a substitute player in professional groups. He has performed with symphonies including the Ballet Indiana and performed under composers including JoAnn Falletta and Henry Cheng and had multiple performances at the American Trombone Workshop. Kreml has frequently recorded with the Joshi Recording Studio and performed in the pit orchestra for Constellation Stage & Screen’s musical productions in Bloomington, IN. In addition to performing, he is an avid educator with a private studio based in Columbus, Ohio.
Kreml is the Co-Founder and Outreach Manager of Waypoint Music Camps: a yearly brass camp for young students across the Midwest. As Outreach Manager, he establishes partnerships with school districts and acts as an in-person representative to advertise across Columbus, OH. He also heads fundraising for Waypoint, drafting and editing grant proposals and acquiring sponsorships from local businesses. Kreml has also served as their Instructor of Trombone and Euphonium since its original camp in 2021. Through Waypoint, he helped commission works by marginalized composers, provided mindfulness-based special topic presentations to young musicians, demonstrated mock auditions, and coached student-led chamber groups.
Kreml received a Bachelor of Music degree from the Eastman School of Music and is currently pursuing a Master of Music at the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music. At Jacobs, he was a finalist for the Innovation Competition for the presentation of Waypoint Music Camps. While at Eastman, he was a recipient of the Steve Witzer Award for Excellence and the Linda Muise Student Life Award. His teachers include Larry Zalkind, Peter Ellefson, and Dr. Brittany Lasch.
